Current Week FIT Schedule
PHILOSOPHY
FIT (Freshman Interdisciplinary Team) was designed by EHS teachers in the late '90s to help freshmen, who come from more than 40 public and private middle schools, get to know a many of their classmates quickly, develop a sense of belonging in the EHS community and prepare academically for the following three years. Edgewood provides a common academic and social experience for all freshmen through FIT, which incorporates six themes -- community, diversity, change, challenges, choices, and balance -- across the six courses in the curriculum. The teachers of the FIT subjects work together on interdisciplinary projects through team teaching. They use research, grammar, logic, interpretation, critical analysis, essay writing, and debates to help freshman acquire skills that will be useful in their academic careers and throughout life.

HOW DOES THE FIT SCHEDULE WORK?
FIT takes place during a three-hour time period each morning, from Mods 2-5, which is used differently each day. Having a long daily block of FIT class time allows freshmen to have some 90-minute classes for extended Biology labs and integrated essay writing as well as some 60-minute classes for an extended class activity or enrichment. Students attend other classes, which meet for 45 minutes, on the traditional mod schedule, during Mods 1 and 6-9. Students receive individual grades in each subject, both in- and outside of FIT.
Below is a sample freshman schedule showing how FIT "fits" into the rest of the day:
