Amnesty International
Amnesty International provides an opportunity for all students to make a difference in the struggle for human rights around the world. Members make a commitment to write at least one letter of appeal each month for prisoners of conscience, staff the Amnesty International table, and sell and teach other students how to use aerogrammes.
Arts Adventure/Drama Club (new last year!)
Do you like to act, write or work backstage? This student-initiated group is for those who love theater, either in or out of the footlights. Possible activities include competing in a one-act festival, other performance opportunities around school and in the area, and working backstage at an Overture Center performance. Book Club
Book Club provides an opportunity for students to meet and discuss books, as well as nurture a love of reading. The group chooses together which books to read, including popular books and classical works, and has a "brown bag" meeting approximately once a month during lunch mods in the Library Conference Room.
Class Council (by election)
Each of the four grade levels has a Class Council whose purpose is to unify the class, encourage all class members to become involved in class and school activities, lead the class in spirit and enthusiasm, sponsor service and other projects in which the class can participate, and organize and support fund-raising projects. Each class council meets every two weeks.

Close Up
Close-Up is a nationally-based, political/current events club that provides students with the opportunity to hear political speakers from the Madison community, visit related museum exhibits in downtown Madison, attend special lectures at the University, view current documentaries/movies covering political/historical themes and provide a classroom forum to debate and discuss relevant topics in the news. Any interested student is welcome to join!
Dance Team (by audition)
Create dance routines and entertain at half-time of football and basketball games. Different membership for fall and spring, depending on availability of dancers.

Dramas & Musicals (by audition)
Participation in theatre provides both social and individual development. IN belonging to a group that works toward a creative goal, students develp qualities that promote maturity, team work, cooperation and dependability. They gain a deeper insight into people by studying characterization in various plays. Personal growth is assured as students gain confidence and poise from participation through various experiences on stage. Improved body coordination and vocal flexibility also result from drama participation. Furthermore, as students obtain a theatre background they gain appreciation of the arts and develop standards of judgment whereby they can recognize, respect and enjoy good theatre.
EdgeTones (by audition)
A cappella (voices only) group, new last year, has made a CD and donated all proceeds from its sale and its concerts to Haiti Earthquake Relief. Auditions in May.
Envoy Student Newspaper
The Envoy is the student-written EHS newspaper, which is published several times yearly. It serves the needs of Edgewood students by showcasing and developing student talent in writing, photography and cartooning; reporting events, happenings and other occurrences in a factual manner; and presenting the viewpoints of the editorial board concerning issues at hand. Any student may write for
The Envoy. Meetings are once a month.
Executive Council (by election)
Executive Council is comprised of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the four grade level councils. The Executive Council helps coordinate all-school activities and service projects and provides leadership training for students. Executive Council officers must maintain a 2.0 GPA.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes
Fellowship of Christian Athletes is a national interdenominational organization whose purpose is to "present to athletes and coaches, and all who they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the Church." Membership is open to all students and coaches interested in improving their faith through athletic participation, and vice versa. Meetings are every three weeks in the homes of students or coaches.
Junior Classical League (Latin Club) & National Latin Honor Society
Junior Classical League is a well-established national organization of approximately 50,000 middle and high school students. Its purpose is "to encourage an interest in and appreciation of the language, literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity." All students enrolled in Latin are eligible for JCL membership and all JLC members are eligible for election to the National Latin Honor Society. Meetings are twice a month and activities include field trips, academic quiz bowl competition and the state convention.
Key Club
Key Club is a service organization that blends service with outstanding leadership training. The projects and activities undertaken by Key Club provide learning experiences outside of the classroom, encourage students to become involved in their school and community, and provides many services to the school. Participation in Key Club develops initiative, leadership and good citizenship. Members hold a great deal of responsibility for the club's success.
Laughing Stock Improvisational Comedy) (by audition)
Laughing Stock is Edgewood's original improvisational comedy troupe. Through classical improv games the group explores the nature of comedy with an emphasis on performance. Several showcases are performed each year. Auditions for the troupe are held each September.
Leadership Corps
The purpose of the Edgewood Leadership Corps is to identify and perpetuate collaborative leadership potential through experiential education (such as Ropes Courses); to focus on improving the skills essential to positive leadership development such as communication, team work, trust, problem-solving, empathy, and fellowship; and to facilitate leadership development consistent with the mission of Edgewood High School.

LIFT (Life Information for Teens)
LIFT provides upperclassmen the opportunity to offer Christian witness and leadership by educating 8th graders at Catholic schools in the Diocese of Madison about moral issues relevant to the lives of young people. Juniors and seniors may apply to LIFT and should be willing to give witness to the Catholic and Christian message regarding life, violence, sexuality alcohol and drugs.
Math Team
Math Team is designed so that students with interest in mathematics may have the opportunity to be challenged outside the classroom by competing with their peers at both local and state levels. Practices are minimal. Math Team won three of four interschool meets last year!
Multicultural Group
Multicultural Group is an organization of students whose purpose is to become familiar with, accepting of, and celebrate differences among people. They help to educate others about the value of diversity and commit to challenge stereotypes. Join us in building bridges!

National Honor Society (by application)
The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character. Eligible students have a cumulative GPA over 3.5 and are evaluated by the Faculty Council on the basis of leadership, service and character. Those students are invited to apply for membership in the spring of their junior year and/or the fall of their senior year. NHS members staff the Ambassador table once a cycle and may provide free peer turtoring, raise funds and partricipate in service projects.
Ping Pong Club
Students meet Monday mornings for a game of ping-pong in the Krantz Center at 7:00 am. Four tables and equipment are provided.
Science Olympiad
Science Olympiad is designed so students with interest in areas of science may have the opportunity to be challenged outside the classroom. Students prepare to compete against other area high schools in a variety of science- and engineering-based events, some individual and some team. The 37 events represent the disciplines of biology, chemistry, computers, earth science, physics and technology. Science Olympiad is an international organization devoted to improving the quailty of science education and increasing student interest in science. There are regional, state and a national tournaments. Last year, EHS teams placed 19th of 50 teams at the State Olympaid.

Ski Club
Ski Club is open to all EHS students with everything from novice to advanced skiing ability. Buses or vans to various local ski hills (Devil's Head, Cascade, & Tyrol Basin) will depart on Friday evenings in December, January, and February. Lessons and rentals are available.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica (new last year!)
For those interested in deepening their experience of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, EHS has a new Spanish Honor Society.
STAR (Sisters Taking Active Roles)
STAR is a young women's group whose purpose is best defined through its mission statement: "As Sisters of STAR, we encourage each other to be examples for females in our community and world. Through a warm, welcoming and respectful environment, we challenge one another to thrive as individuals and as a community of young women. We build confidence by strengthening ourselves in mind, body, and soul." STAR is open to all young women at EHS and is a year-long commitment. Activities include everything from how to change a flat tire or the oil a car to sewing and cooking; discussion of issues common to females; and expert speakers on everything from dating from self-defence to college expectations and eating disorders.
Strategy Games Club
Strategy Games Club is for those students who enjoy playing games that require strategic thought and planning. Abstract two-player games like Chess and Zértz are played, as well as group games that can accommodate more than ten people. Every two weeks a new game is introduced. Tournaments are possible, and the emphasis is on fun!
Ultimate Frisbee Club (the EHS Platypi)
Ultimate Frisbee is open to all students with a desire to play competitive Frisbee both together and against other high schools in the area. Practice is usually before school year-round. Everyone participates in this fast-paced game. Last year, Ultimate celebrated "A Decade of Disc" at EHS!
Vita Semper
Vita Semper
(Life Always) is a club that promotes within the school community appreciation and recognition of the value of human life. Members will learn more about how to advocate for those who have no voice, and who need someone to speak on their behalf for the sake of justice. In its first year, Vita Semper raised thousands of dollars for the protection of human lives. Join us for year two!
Wayfarer Student Literary Magazine
The Wayfarer is a literary magazine written by students and published in the spring. Students submit poems, plays, short stories and essays to the EHS Writing Contest. Pieces are chosen by an outside panel of judges and students and then published in
Wayfarer . Last year,
Wayfarer was honored with the "Highest Award" from the National Council of Teachers of English, one of only 20 magazines in the NATION to receive this honor!
Wayfarer has consistently been rated as Superior from year to year and has once previously received the Highest Award.

Yearbook (Crusader)
The purpose of the Crusader Yearbook co-curricular is to produce an excellent yearbook for the enjoyment of Edgewood students, faculty, staff, family and friends. The group also exists to help students develop leadership skills, give background in publication production, and offer the opportunity to make friends.

Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) Club
The DDR Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays to have a good time dancing to this popular video game.
Yoga Club
In Yoga Club, students, faculty and staff will be introduced to the basics of yoga. Participants practicing poses will learn how yoga helps with stress relief, flexibility and strength in the core of the body. Yoga Club meets before school once a week.
