Service Learning is at the heart of the student experience at Edgewood, and it’s an integral part of the school’s mission and vision statements. Service Learning has been an important part of the high school experience since its founding. We have carefully structured our Service Learning program to provide our students with a wide variety of enriching experiences. At each stage in their educational journey, our students work with nonprofits to foster a spirit of service, encouraging students to become lifelong contributors to society. Much of the success of the Service Learning program at Edgewood is attributed to the strength of our relationships with over 60 community partners—many of which we have served for decades.

To meet the Service Hour Graduation Requirements:

• Students must have a minimum of 100 service hours. It’s wonderful if you have more!
• Of the 100 hours, at least 75 must be community hours. It’s wonderful if you have more!
• Edgewood hours are eligible toward the 100 total required service hours, but are not necessary if all 100 hours completed are Community Service.
• Transfer students have a prorated total based on the below Yearly Accrual Recommendation to account only for the time attending EHS. The community requirement remains 75% of the total requirement.
• Incoming students in August (freshmen and transfers) can submit and receive service hours from volunteering the summer prior to beginning classes at Edgewood. Transfer students in January can submit and receive service hours from volunteering the semester prior to beginning classes at Edgewood.
• All Service Hours must be submitted through Mobile Serve for verification and approval.

• Community service hours must be performed for non-profit organizations.
• Volunteer work for for-profit businesses, political organizations, babysitting, pet sitting, and other personal acts of service, while valuable and appreciated, do NOT count toward the Edgewood High School Community Service requirement.
• Tutoring through a non-profit organization can count toward Community Service Hours but private tutoring does NOT. Private tutoring may qualify for Edgewood Service Hours if the student being tutored is an Edgewood student, and the service is verified by a non-relative adult (such as an EHS teacher, staff member, or program supervisor). If submitting Edgewood tutoring hours in Mobile Serve, please include who you tutored in the description. 
• Service hours will NOT be accepted if performed for relatives or a family business. An exception may be made is a relative works for a non-profit and service is completed through that organization. If you believe your situation qualifies for this exception, please contact Sailor Reynolds before completing your hours to make sure they can be approved. 
• A relative CANNOT be used to verify or supervise Community Service or Edgewood Hours under any circumstance. 
• Items created at home by students for service hour purposes (e.g., drawings, cards, letters, blankets, baked goods, care packages etc.) must be verified by the receiving organization as having been received. MobileServe submissions must include photos of the completed items and verification by the receiving organization as received. Service hours granted will be based on the time reasonable spent creating the items. House may be adjusted or rejected if the quality of items does not reasonably correspond with the number of hours submitted. Students may earn up to MAXIMUM 10 hours for these virtual service opportunities.
